York Goodramgate Contrajour, framed original painting on board

The whole street of Goodramgate in York is flooded with light in this painting around mid-day and it is always bustling with people.

This painting has been part of my private collection since it was created in 2010 at a time when I was using photographic reference for my paintings to achieve the most realistic impressions. I don't do that so much now, other than to gain the essence of places.

The drama in this painting is accentuated by the light and the simplistic colour palette of blues.

I have aways liked the dramatic light in contrajour. It is no surprise that that my current crowds of people are predominantly in silhouette.
